Office of Public Prosecutions

Victoria’s public prosecutions service is professional, committed and one of the most effective in Australia. We contribute to the maintenance of law and order in society, and to the safety of all Victorians by prosecuting serious criminal matters.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) – under the direction of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions (SPP) – and the Crown Prosecutors' Chambers work together to prosecute serious crime on behalf of the people of Victoria.

The OPP prepares cases for the DPP and presents them on his behalf in court by briefing Crown Prosecutors, private barristers or our own Solicitor Advocates.
