Makeup Artist

Eve Dang is not only a highly accomplished makeup artist she is also assistant to make up tsar Napoleon Perdis when he visits from the US. Napoleon Perdis has just opened a store in LA taking his Australian business global.

At only 22, Eve already has five years experience in the makeup industry behind her. Her professional history includes making up artists and models for a variety of magazine shoots, television shows, pop videos and various other events including the Commonwealth Games and televised industry awards.

Eve knew she had made it the day she found herself doing makeup at Mercedes Fashion Week. “It is one of my favourite events and the first time, backstage with models and designers, was everything I had always dreamt it to be.”

The Sydney girl started her career as a makeup artist as soon as she left school after applying for a job as junior administration assistant for Napoleon Perdis. Inspired by her new boss, she enrolled in the Napoleon Perdis Makeup Academy to do a nine-month Diploma of Makeup.

“The great thing about the course is the fantastic work experience they offer [students] doing films, catwalks and photo shoots,” Eve said. The course also offered her the chance to continue working part time for Napoleon.

After graduating Eve spent a couple of months working in retail, practising makeup application before taking up a position on the Napoleon Perdis national core creative team.

“I get to travel, meet different and interesting people and it’s such a great experience – with this job you are always on call and always prepared to go.”

On the day I interview Eve, she is at a David Jones promotion in Perth assisting Napoleon and is scheduled to return to Sydney a day later to do make up on a photo shoot. She is a busy girl with a busy schedule but she loves it.

For those aspiring to a career as a makeup artist she advises researching a good course, getting a foot in the door, making contacts, working hard and focusing on their passion.
