The ANAO's purpose is to support accountability and transparency in the Australian Government sector through independent reporting to the Parliament, and thereby contribute to improved public sector performance.

Applications for the 2020-2021 Talent Register with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) are now open.
This Register may be used to fill temporary APS4 to EL2 vacancies across all work areas in the ANAO. Current APS employees interested in s26, at level transfers are also strongly encouraged to register their interest.
The ANAO is divided into five different functions that make up our workgroups. Each workgroup specialises in different types of audit or support. These five workgroups and functions are:
Assurance Audit Services Group (AASG): provides independent assurance on the financial statements and financial administration of all Australian Government entities. This group also conducts assurance reviews. Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Accounting, Economics and Commerce.
Performance Audit Services Group (PASG): provides performance audit services with the aim of improving how government agencies go about their work. From high level governance issues through to the delivery of services to communities, performance audits look at a diverse range of topics across public sector agencies. Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Any field, skills in research, analysis, written communication and project management are highly desirable.
System Assurance and Data Analytics (SADA) Group: provides IT audit and data analytics support to the ANAO's assurance and performance audit work, with staff from a range of professional and technical backgrounds. Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Data Analytics, Data Science and Engineering, Business Information System and IT Security related disciplines.
Professional Services and Relationships Group (PSRG): provides high level technical advice to the Auditor-General, and supports the audit and assurance activities of the ANAO with methodology and advice. PSRG also supports the Auditor-General with his relationship to Parliament and with creating and maintaining strong relationships with key public sector stakeholders, nationally and internationally. Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Public Policy and Law.
Corporate Management Group (CMG): leads corporate strategy, communication and change for the ANAO. It provides services based on specialised knowledge, best practices and technology that enable the delivery of the ANAO's purpose and audit outcomes. Relevant Qualifications and Experience: Human Resources, Finance, Communication, Governance and Change, Business Applications and IT.
The Register may be used to fill roles such as Financial Statement Auditors, Performance Auditors, Executive Assistants and other Corporate positions.
