AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Ecological Risk Assessor to join our highly regarded and dynamic Geoscience and Remediation Team in Australia. You will work with a great team of environmental scientists, geologists, hydrogeologists, and environmental engineers providing contaminated land assessment consulting advice on a range of local, national, and international projects. The role can be based in Sydney, Canberra, or Newcastle.
The Senior Ecological Assessor will play a significant role in delivering excellent quality work for our clients and be a key member of AECOM's National Risk Practice Team. You will have the opportunity to work on a vast array of projects from local high-profile jobs, to career-defining national and international projects.
In this role, you will:
Provide technical expertise in support of ongoing AECOM risk assessments and environmental site assessments in Australia and in collaboration with our international teams.
Review and assist in the preparation of Conceptual Site Models, screening-level risk assessments, and site-specific risk assessments and provide solid oversight and review of junior staff work products for regulatory compliance and technical accuracy
Perform ecological risk assessments for terrestrial and aquatic environments incorporating site-specific methods such as ecotoxicity testing, food web modelling, ecosystem population assessment, and bioaccumulation assessments.
Design intrusive investigations to inform risk assessments including preparation of sampling and analysis quality plans, placement and construction of groundwater and soil vapour monitoring wells, and selection of appropriate sampling and analytical techniques.
Be given continual career growth support via formal and informal training opportunities, and participation in relevant industry groups such as SETAC and ACTRA.
Assist in business development activities by supporting business development proposal efforts and presentations at relevant conferences.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients to enhance client retention and growth of the ecological risk practice
Support and drive AECOMs quality, project management, and performance management systems
Demonstrated experience in a professional contaminated land consultancy setting or similar,
Strong background and proven experience (5+ years) in ecological risk assessments (experience in human health risk assessment would also be favourable).
Excellence in written communication and collaboration skills that facilitate detailed planning, timely decision-making, and efficient implementation
Knowledge in contaminated site assessment and characterisation, including data gap analysis, uncertainty evaluation, the establishment of data quality objectives, and conceptual site model development.
A proven ability to critically analyse data, write reports, provide quality control and assurance, and present results to clients
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology/Hydrogeology Environmental Science, Chemistry or equivalent
