You will contribute to the efficient operation of Patient Services at SA Pathology by providing a high level of customer service and care to patients through phlebotomy, specimen collection, specimen management and administration duties. The management of specimens in the pre-analytical stage ensures the delivery of quality samples for testing that leads to the timely diagnosis and treatment of patients. You will collect blood samples from adults, children and infants and undertake specialised test procedures. This will include collecting samples such as urine, swabs, skin and breath. Advising clients on any special requirements prior to test procedures, you will provide a basic first aid service as required. You will also maintain equipment, consumables and work areas in a clean, safe and well-resourced state. SA Pathology provides quality diagnostic pathology services to the South Australian community, as well as support for training and medical research, through our state-wide laboratory network. Our 19 laboratories are distributed throughout South Australia’s metropolitan and regional hospitals and are supported by more than 50 conveniently located patient collection centres in Metropolitan and peri-urban Adelaide. We also provide a Phlebotomy service to major hospital wards. You will have the ability to learn and use the state of the art Laboratory Information System.

You will have successfully completed the Certificate III in Pathology Specimen Collection or an equivalent qualification, and have proven phlebotomy experience. To be successful in this role, you will need to have good manual dexterity and an ability to show empathy and understanding to patients. Demonstrating a good understanding of patient confidentiality, you will have strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team environment. Good typing and keyboard skills will also be beneficial.
