The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is currently seeking a Governance, Policy and Risk Officer to join the team from January 2022. The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is responsible for the leadership, operation and management of systemic schools which educate more than 21,000 students in 44 primary schools, 11 secondary schools, one K-12 school, one flexible learning centre and one special school in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. Working under the leadership of the Catholic Schools Office, the role will work in partnership with the Diocesan Compliance, Legal and Risk Team the Governance, Policy and Risk Officer to oversee, monitor and provide advice on development and management of the Catholic Schools Office's policy, governance compliance, privacy and risk management frameworks for itself as an agency of the diocese and for its system of schools Key responsibilities will include: Work within policy framework and coordinate cyclic review of policies and procedures to ensure currency and legislative compliance Oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of compliance across schools and within the CSO Provide high level strategic advice and support for best practice risk, governance and compliance and work with key stakeholders to meet legislative compliance obligations Maintain focus on evidence and impact by identifying and implementing evidence-based strategies Prepare quality reports, briefing papers, correspondence and assist with strategies to enable a timely response to CSO governance issues. Develop self and others through induction and training in relation to risk management and governance Work effectively with Diocesan Compliance Team to support CSO and school stakeholders in the discharge of their risk management, legal and compliance responsibilities Provide annual compliance and key policy updates for CSO and school based staff The position of Governance, Policy and Risk Officer is being offered on a full-time permanent basis commencing in January 2022. Essential Criteria: The applicant must provide evidence of the following: Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic education and to actively support the Catholic ethos and culture of our system of schools Strong conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to develop and implement practical and workable solutions in a large and complex organisation Demonstrated understanding of legislative and regulatory environments and the key principles governing the development, implementation and monitoring of compliance management frameworks, and ability to deliver and develop education programs to increase staff awareness of compliance issues Excellent interpersonal skills with extensive experience in developing and managing key stakeholder relationships in a collaborative manner and proven ability to maintain confidentiality Desirable Criteria: Experience in managing governance and compliance requirements within the education sector QUALIFICATIONS/ACCREDITATIONS A relevant tertiary qualification with at least five years experience influencing and leading good governance practice, risk management, compliance, and reporting within a large, complex organisation Willingness to comply with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy.
