Full job description

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Emergency Registrar to join the Emergency Department with the possibility of an ICU rotation on a Full Time Fixed Term basis for 2020.

Reporting to the Medical Workforce Unit Manager the successful applicant will be required to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team; apply theoretical knowledge and experience in determining the appropriate clinical diagnosis, investigations and treatment of patients; and supervise registrars/provisional trainees as appropriate, HMOs and interns in the Emergency Department.

For registrars registered with the college, this role will be suitable for 6 months ACEM accreditation of core ED and there is the opportunity to accredit a 6 month non-core rotation.

Location:

The city has a large commercial centre which incorporates the major regional railway station.

Sidewalk cafes, restaurants and shopping arcades mark the commercial centre. Amble along the wide tree-lined streets, beautiful gardens and spacious parklands and see remnants of the gold rush years reflected in the architecture of the city. As the region's entertainment capital, the city is flush with alfresco dining options and a thriving pubs and clubs scene.

South of the city the Strzelecki Ranges offer a number of scenic tourist drive routes, including the Grand Ridge Road and the route to the Tarra Bulga National Park. North there are extensive alpine ranges which include such attractions as the ski resort of Mount Baw Baw, the Thompson Dam (which provides Melbourne with its largest supply of water), a number of state and national parks, and the historic community of Walhalla.

The Hospital:

This hospital is the major provider of specialist health services in the region, east of Melbourne. Our comprehensive range of services extends to emergency and intensive care, elective surgery, allied health, obstetrics, medical and radiation oncology at the Cancer Care Centre, dialysis and aged care.

We have a number of outstanding facilities following a recent expansion. These include a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, large Emergency Department, endoscopy suites and modern and contemporary inpatient units. These complement extensive Allied Health amenities including a gym and pool.

To Apply:

Essential: Demonstrated ability to pursue both formal and self-directed learning in clinical practice, and some evidence of developing ability to teach more junior doctors and medical students
Essential: Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
Essential: General Registration with AHPRA
Desirable: Registration with ACEM as a Trainee
