Job Summary

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and quality driven senior ecologist to join our established and growing North Queensland group, working together with our broader natural resources team across SEQ and the NT.

As our regional ecology lead, you will be leading a growing range of projects within the transport, renewable energy, Defence and the resource sectors. Your time will be divided between field and office, allowing for data interrogation, client liaison, project management and technical report delivery predominately across Queensland.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for a current ecologist who is looking to take the next step in their professional career, or a senior who is looking to further develop their skillset working in an international consultancy. If you are an ecologist with NSW experience, willing to relocate to QLD, we also want to hear from you.

Ideally this role would be based in our Townsville office, but being based in alternative offices, such as Rockhampton, Mackay or Cairns will be considered if that is your preference.

A snapshot of the opportunity includes:

  • Planning and implementation of ecological investigations, including.

  • Baseline ecological surveys

  • Regional ecosystem verification assessments

  • Bio-condition assessments

  • Targeted flora and fauna surveys

  • Fauna Habitat Assessments

  • Offset suitability surveys

  • Data analysis, mapping and impact assessment,

  • Preparation and review of technical reporting, including investigation reports, constraints assessments, species management plans, offset strategies and environmental impact statements.

  • Management of ecology projects and client relationships

  • Preparing proposals

  • Mentoring junior staff

  • Business development

  • Developing and maintaining technical networks

  • Participating in technical leadership initiatives across the environment team.

Minimum Requirements

  • 5-10 years of relevant ecological experience, preferably Queensland (NSW experience will be considered)

  • Experience working in a consulting environment – highly advantageous

  • Experience delivering ecological field programs including baseline and targeted surveys

  • Class C, open licence required and experience with 4WD – desirable

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required, including working remotely in the field, often in rural Queensland - essential

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, specialising in ecology/environmental science

  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data management systems

  • Biocondition Training, Regional Ecosystem Training and/or recognition as a Suitably Qualified Person under the Queensland Flora Survey Guidelines.
