Position Summary/Overall Purpose of the Job:

This role is a level 1 risk function responsible for end-to-end controls implementation across the Retail Bank Team. This includes:

  • Risk identification and mitigation, controls testing, reporting and remediation for the business unit
  • Work closely with the business in identifying, tracking and managing business issues and corrective action plans
  • Work closely with the business in support of completing change risk assessments
  • Proactive deep dive investigations and reviews
  • Timely and effective escalation, communication and management of incidents
  • Working closely with the Retail Bank business and Line 2 partner functions - Compliance, AML, Fraud, Information Security, Legal and Operational Risk Management functions
  • This role requires effective engagement and relationship skills to influence and deliver appropriate business outcomes whilst ensuring a strict adherence to internal policy and regulatory requirements

Key Accountabilities And Responsibilities:

Relationship Management:

  • Work with the Retail Bank leadership teams to drive culture of “no surprises”
  • Meet regularly with the business teams to understand new initiatives and ensure that new and existing business processes are supported by effective controls and relevant approvals obtained
  • Ensure that an effective change management methodology is followed for all changes to business process, policy and regulations, that all required documents are maintained and all stakeholders educated of each change
  • Manager’s Control Assessment (MCA) self-testing
  • Work with managers to determine process risks, assess control effectiveness and design testing and risk indicators, liaising with support functions as required
  • Co-ordinate and or conduct MCA testing on assigned businesses. Communicate results back to the relevant managers and ensure that all issues identified have been closed as required. Measure and report on the business unit’s performance against Key Control Indicators (KCI) established between the business unit, Country Compliance and Operational Risk Management
  • Raise and track to completion any iCAPs where necessary to ensure that corrective actions have been implemented to address any findings identified during MCA

Targeted Reviews:

  • Perform periodic business process reviews on assigned business areas and identify opportunities for improvement. This is with the end goal of strengthening controls and improving process efficiency and quality
  • Review business policy and procedure documents to ensure congruency and compliance with the latest regulations, risk policies and business procedures. Ensure that they have are reviewed and signed off annually by all stakeholders

Management of Internal and External Reviews:

  • Drive strong audit outcomes including Management Awareness Ratings
  • Manage departmental operational risk self-assessment and risk indicator reporting

Reporting:

  • Escalate any issues to senior management and relevant stakeholders
  • Monthly reporting and presentation for the Retail Bank Risk Management Committee
