Following a recent increase in our long term project pipeline, AECOM’s Water Team is looking for a passionate and highly driven Associate Director for our Water Resources division. The right candidate is sought to provide leadership and utilise their technical expertise for delivering on a wide variety of significant infrastructure projects, establishing and building existing client relationships; and leading a talented and well regarded engineering team in a top tier consultancy environment.

The role has the potential to be based out of either our Cairns, Townsville, Mackay or Rockhampton offices, primarily serving projects and clients across North Queensland and the Northern Territory, but also contributing to the global AECOM projects. These centres are all close to the Great Barrier Reef and share a great mix of city convenience and outdoor lifestyle. Joining our team means partnering with a team of industry leaders who pride themselves on the delivery of water resources projects, specifically in the areas of flood impact assessment, flood modelling and flood management plans, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, drainage design, water quality and mine site water management. Our innovative and creative team are also at the forefront of supporting clients in disaster management to prepare, respond and recover from natural disasters.

In addition, our multidisciplinary team of water resource experts are at the forefront of digital solutions, including the use of numerical modelling, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), machine learning and drone technology to support a range of projects including flood studies, infrastructure design, water quality assessment and geomorphic assessment. We are known in the industry for pioneering new technologies and providing innovative solutions to some of the most interesting projects across the North Queensland and Northern Territory region.

This permanent role will see you managing, leading and delivering on various Water Resources projects with first class support from our industry specialists across our North Queensland and Northern Territory offices.

Minimum Requirements

  • A highly qualified and relevant professional possessing impressive exposure to the consulting environment with strong leadership experience

  • Proficiency in a range of water resource skills including hydraulic design, floodplain management, water quality assessments, mine water management, tailings management, water balance, hydrological assessments, dam safety inspections and drainage.

  • Proven task and project management skills and proficiency in report writing.

  • Interest in mentoring, developing and managing teams

  • Working knowledge of the Queensland and Australian legislations, standards and guidelines as they relate to the water sector

  • Fluent communicator with vast experience in client engagement and management

You are a leader who thrives on delivering high quality, sometimes out-of-the-box solutions for clients. Your drive and ambition, along with your strong technical capability will see you succeed in this role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary Qualifications in a relevant Engineering discipline such as Water Resource Management, Civil Engineering or Environmental Science / Hydrology are essential;

  • RPEQ/CPEng is also highly regarded.
