The School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials is seeking to appoint a talented postdoctoral researcher to develop the next generation of wearable sensors for the Defence Force. Funded under the Australian Research Council's (ARC) National Intelligence and Security Discovery Research Grants program, this role will offer you an exceptional opportunity to develop cutting-edge wearable sensing devices. This exciting opportunity will see you transforming graphene and other 2D materials into real-word devices to support Defence Personnel working in the field. Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other leading researchers in the ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing with 2D Materials (AM2D) and the Defence and Security Institute (DSI). Based in the School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials at the University of Adelaide, you will work as part of a dynamic team of academics and postgraduate students with expertise in 2D materials and graphene-based technologies. Your work will develop low-cost, wireless and wearable sensors to detect low concentrations of airborne organic compounds and use new platform technologies to provide wearers with rapid, continuous information about any toxic chemicals in the immediate environment. Research outcomes from this project will also have implications for many sectors including mining, chemical industry, transport, and agriculture. To be successful you will need: A PhD (or thesis submitted) in Chemistry, Chemical or Materials Engineering or a related discipline. Experience and demonstrated competence in developing and testing sensor devices to measure volatile compounds. Experience and demonstrated competence in producing and characterising 2D materials using analytical techniques. Demonstrated capacity to work to tight deadlines and communicate research concepts to a wide range of audiences including industry partners. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team and interact effectively with colleagues and external collaborators.
