When Wesfarmers purchased the Coles Group in 2007, it inherited a chain of 180 Kmart stores which were cluttered and crowded. Kmart’s future was anything but certain.
By 2010, Kmart’s transformation was well underway. By focusing on the needs of customers, it had become one of Wesfarmers’ star performing businesses.
The secret was a complete revamp of the supply chain including drastic cutting of the number of products on sales, increasing Kmart’s own lines, refreshing stores and offering customers irresistibly low prices, everyday.
