…OR “HOW-TO” EFFECTIVELY GET OUR ATTENTION
YOU HEAR THE STORIES ALL THE TIME, WELL SKILLED, HARD WORKING PEOPLE IN THE DIGITAL INDUSTRY HAVE APPLIED TO ‘X’ AMOUNT OF JOBS AND JUST CAN’T GET A CALL BACK, NOT EVEN AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT?!?!
Where are they going wrong????
Recruiters tell you all the time; they receive a lot of CVs everyday, they’re constantly trawling through them and it seems only a few people get a call back.
We read them all — trust us, we do — it’s in our best interests, those people out there who don’t take the time to read your CV, they don’t deserve your business! Go elsewhere and speak to someone who’ll listen.
So why are you not getting the call back? or why do you keep receiving the ‘Thanks but no thanks’ response? Here’s a few gripes that come up;
Have you read the ad you’re applying for?
What are the skills they’re asking for, does your CV contain any traces of those skills? You might know in your mind you’re capable of the job — but can anyone else tell from your CV — in this case, it’s all you’ve got for getting on the radar!
Are you just wanting to get on the agents radar even though you’re not capable of doing the job you’ve applied for?
DON’T JUST SEND IN YOUR CV TO A RANDOM JOB ADVERTISEMENT BECAUSE YOU’RE WANTING TO GET ON THE RECRUITERS RADAR — INSTEAD;
give them a call, send them an email; get in touch any other way but applying for that unsuitable job! Because most of the time, it makes it look like you haven’t read the ad and your attention to detail is bad — which is not a great quality for most people in the digital environment
Please leave me comments on your ideas or your gripes when it comes to applying for jobs — if you’ve expected to hear back about applications and never have, maybe we can help with where it’s going wrong!
