Brisbane-based entrepreneur Andrea Tjoeng has been honoured among some of Australia’s most promising young business people.

Andrea Tjoeng has been named as one of the Australian Institute of Management’s top 30 managers, aged under 30.

The annual list is a who’s who of young executives working across industries including banking, recruitment, science and retail.

Andrea is the Business Leader of SCOUT, the e-recruitment software business that’s part of Employment Office, a recruitment marketing firm tailoring affordable solutions for its clients recruitment needs.

As Business Leader of SCOUT, Andrea has managed all aspects of developing the e-recruitment software product, bringing it to market and securing a growing share of the market.

“I feel honoured to have made the list.  The other young managers on the list are an impressive bunch - and it's nice to be recognised amongst them,” Andrea said.

“There is a stereotype out there that Gen Y’s don’t have a strong work ethic and tend to want everything now, so a great young manager needs to make sure they're not perpetuating that stereotype!  I think you need to be a leader first and foremost. The best managers are leaders, and by that I mean they lead by example, and inspire the people who report to them to achieve their goals,” she said.

The AIM30 is a list of individuals from across the country that utilise management skills to improve their organisations and the people within them.  Across industries, disciplines and experience level, the young managers on this list bring enthusiasm, speed, innovation and passion to their careers, balanced with a global perspective on economic, social and political influences.

The Sunshine State is home to 11 of this year’s top 30.  Seven of these young managers were from Brisbane.

So what’s next for Andrea as a promising young executive?

“I'd like for SCOUT to be a world leader in the recruitment software space. We're expanding in the North American market at the moment, whilst remaining focused on keeping up our momentum in Australia, so we're on our way,” she said.
