About Department
The Victorian Cancer Cytogenetics Service at St Vincent's Hospital provides a statewide cancer cytogenetic service for the people of Victoria. We are Australia's largest cancer cytogenetic laboratory and we provide a comprehensive conventional and molecular cytogenetic service including FISH. We are currently undergoing accreditation for microarray testing.

About the Role

The Grade 4 Medical Scientist, along with the Principal Scientist and Medical Director, is responsible for the management of the overall operation of the Cytogenetics Department so that it meets the needs of all its clients and operates as a cost effective unit within the division of Pathology. In the absence of the Principal Scientist, the Grade 4 Scientist will assume the responsibilities of the Principal Scientist.

Classifications for this position will range from RZ5 - RZ7

($117,826.80- $136,344.00 per annum).

Duties

Participate in all laboratory tasks including culturing, harvesting, analysing and reporting of patient specimens by conventional and molecular cytogenetics including FFPE, FISH and Microarray.

Ensure there is adequate training, development and support for scientific and technical staff. The incumbent will have responsibility for training in the department.

Review and evaluation of new and existing methods.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

B.Sc, B.App.Sci or equivalent

FHGSA (Cytogenetics) or FFSc RCPA or equivalent

At least 10 years experience in cancer cytogenetics
