Dental assistant – grade dependent on qualifications and experience

PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services is a not for profit organisation providing culturally attuned, integrated health and community services on the Far South Coast of New South Wales. Katungul is managed by a CEO reporting to an elected Board of Directors.

When working as the Dental Assistant the position involves a variety of clinic and community-based activities to assist the Dentist in providing dental care and health education to clients. This position requires the ability to provide high quality clinical services to clients; care and attention to detail in maintaining the dental clinic; and a commitment to community health promotion and oral health education.

When working as the Clinical Administration Officer the position involves providing reception and administrative support to various clinical and other staff to ensure the smooth running of the clinic. As the receptionist is the first point of contact it is essential that they are pleasant, courteous, highly professional and able to interact with a wide and diverse range of people. They will need the ability to work proficiently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Essential

Prior experience as a dental assistant and medical receptionist
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to create a calm environment where clients are often anxious
Ability to prioritise workload, demonstrated organisational skills and delivery to agreed deadlines
A demonstrated understanding of the issues and barriers that impact upon the health outcomes of Aboriginal people
Ability to collect data, write reports, and willingness to comply with reporting requirements of the organisation
Current unrestricted NSW Driver Licence

Desirable

To be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander decent
Current Certificate III or IV in Dental Assisting
First Aid Certificate or willingness to gain a First Aid Certificate
Previous work experience in a community setting, clinical environment, or within an Aboriginal organisation
Experience working with Aboriginal communities
Willingness to perform some overnight and long-distance work across southern NSW
