Career Medical Officer Mental Health

What you'll be doing
The Career Medical Officer in Mental Health:

Provides high quality assessment and management of patients across the lifespan within the Mental Health Service;
Takes a leadership role in engagement with, assessment of, treatment, and discharge planning for persons receiving care and their families and supports;
Ensures that care provided is consistent with principles of recovery, person-centred care, trauma informed care and is need adapted;
Engages with and continues to develop skill and expertise in engaging the person and their family and social network;
Appropriately involves senior medical colleagues in the delivery of care;
Appropriately involves medical and non-medical colleagues in the delivery of care;
Ensures collaboration and participation between services based in hospitals and services based in the community;
Ensures all necessary documentation and record keeping occurs in a timely fashion;
Supports senior medical staff in ensuring that the identification of a treating team occurs in a timely and efficient way;
Contributes to academic and educational activities within the Mental Health Service;
Responds to acute and emergency situations in a timely, professional and effective manner;
Supports service provision outside of business hours e.g. via participation in an after-hours roster;
Contributes to the quality of all aspects of service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District;
Supports service delivery within the Local Health District but outside of the primary place or places of work, as required;
Supports the Medical Director of Mental Health in the provision of high quality care to the population of Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District;
Actively contributes to the development of the Mental Health Service as an employer of choice.

MBBS or equivalent. Currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia; Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position; Ability and willingness to travel to other facilities of NBMLHD; Demonstrated commitment to Continuing Professional Development including capacity for reflective practice.
Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality mental health services within a mental health setting across the range of therapeutic modalities; commitment to person-centred, recovery oriented, family inclusive, trauma informed and need adapted principles of care; capacity to take on a leadership role with limited supervision in the delivery of high quality health care.
Demonstrated ability to support and work collaboratively with inter-professional teams and with other teams, agencies and health services in order to provide high quality health care.
High level interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills including the capacity to negotiate conflict and difference in the workplace and with consumers and their families.
Demonstrated skill and commitment to supporting the learning and supervision of medical and non-medical colleagues and to medical students, and a commitment to inter-professional learning.
Demonstrated qualities, skills and attitudes consistent with a practitioner providing high quality care to people and their families; and evidence of high personal ethical and professional standards.
Commitment to participation in activities that improve quality and safety in order to provide a high standard of care within the Service.
Demonstrated understanding of principles of research and evaluation of evidence relevant to the delivery of care and the needs of the Service.
