Five (5) year performance-based contract

The City of Mandurah is seeking applications for the position of Director Strategy and Economic Development. This is an exciting position in our newly created organisational structure and will be key in supporting the City’s strategic direction.

This is a senior leadership position. It is expected that the successful candidate will not only demonstrate leadership of the Strategy and Economic Development Directorate during an exciting time of transformation, but also make a significant contribution to the development of Mandurah as a great place to live and work.

The key objectives for the role, which can be read in more detail within the position description, are as follows:

Provide strategic leadership, expert advice and oversight to Council, City officers, other local governments, State and Federal Government’s and other stakeholders in matters relevant to the formulation and development of the strategic and policy objectives of the City.
Lead, motivate, encourage and inspire the development of a highly effective, engaged and professional Strategy and Economic Development Directorate with a clear focus on the delivery of planned outcomes and the continual development of the capabilities and capacities of the individual members of the team.
Build quality relationships and deliver outstanding services to key stakeholders including ratepayers, residents, governments, not for profit and private sector and the wider community.
Provide effective coordination of the Strategy and Economic Development Directorate in accordance with relevant legislation, standards and Council Policy.
Proactively manage the performance of all aspects of the business and contribute at a high level in an Executive Management team responsible for ensuring optimisation of the City’s overall performance.
Be part of a Leadership Team which is committed to the growth and development of the Mandurah community and making the City a great place to live and work.
Develop and provide services which make the City the best local government to do business with.

To be considered for this position you will have:

Degree in relevant discipline.
Significant experience in leading strategy and/or economic development functions, preferably for high performing organisations.
Possession of, or progression towards, a Post Graduate qualification in Management or equivalent relevant experience.
Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body.
Commitment to self-improvement and professional development.

This position is a Designated Senior Employee, and a total remuneration package of up to $260K to reflect this will be negotiated with the successful candidate based on a five-year performance-based contract.
