Craigieburn Secondary College is situated 25 kilometres north of the city centre and is set on large, picturesque grounds shared with Craigieburn South Primary School. The College enjoys excellent grounds and facilities including a 300 seat Performing Arts Centre, Industrial Kitchen and a State of the Art Science Centre. The grounds include lawn and passive areas and astro-turf playing fields that incorporate basketball, volleyball, rugby, soccer, cricket and a running track. Traditional sporting facilities include a gymnasium, asphalt basketball courts and grassed football and soccer fields.

In this pursuit we have high expectations of students, teachers and parents and we provide structures and processes that facilitate the implementation of a consistent and rigorous student learning program.

Demographics

The College has an SFOE of 0.6083. The current enrolment is 1084 students and growing steadily. There are four Principal class members, ten leading teachers and EFT eighty eight teaching staff and thirty three education support staff.

Craigieburn Secondary College has over forty different language backgrounds represented in our school community. We have an excellent EAL program and a multicultural aid in order to best assist second language students in their learning.

Select entry enrichment and acceleration program (CEAP) that offers places to a limited number of highly capable and committed students who meet the academic rigours set by the program.

Literacy and Numeracy Fluency programs running for all Year 7 students
Leadership programs including School and House captaincies, SRC, Advance program and the Alpine School.

Role

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.

Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.

Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.

Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.

Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

Responsibilities

In recognition of the importance of leadership and management combined with exemplary teaching practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the leading teachers may include but are not limited to:

- Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement initiatives related to the school strategic plan and school priorities

- Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and delivery;

- Leading and managing the provision of professional development and developing individual and team development plans for teaching staff within the priorities of the school;

- Leading and managing staff performance and development (review of staff);

- Teaching demonstration lessons;

- Leading and managing the development of the school's assessment and reporting policies and practices;

- Leading and managing the implementation of the school operations and policies related to student welfare and discipline;

- Leading the development of curriculum in a major learning area and participating in curriculum development in other areas;

- Responsibility for general discipline matters beyond the management of classroom teachers;

- Contributing to the overall leadership and management of the school;

- Contributing to the development of proposals for school council consideration;

- Developing and managing the school code of conduct.

CRAIGIEBURN SECONDARY COLLEGE

Junior School Leader

Purpose of the role

The Junior/Middle School Leader plays a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes by providing leadership and strategic direction of the Middle School (years 7-9) programs and coordination team. They will be responsible for ensuring all 7-9 programs, policies and processes are DET and College compliant. They will actively monitor student achievement data and support and coach teachers in quality assessment and high impact teaching strategies in line with the College’s strategic plan and DET guidelines, goals and targets. They will be responsible for the documentation and evaluation of the Personal Learning Program. They will work with the Junior and Middle school teams to ensure that the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support model is implemented with fidelity. They will oversee the 6 into 7, 7 into 8 and 8 into 9 transition process. This includes;

Monitoring and evaluating the PLT program and the impact of the program on student outcomes
Ensuring the PLT program is documented and assessed in line with the College’s curriculum policy and key curriculum documents
Collecting and collating 7-9 student outcome data to develop, implement and evaluate programs based on areas of need
Leading and supporting the Junior and Middle school program managers in data analysis and sub-school processes
Liaising with feeder primary schools to promote the College’s teaching and learning program

The Junior/Middle School Leader will assist the Assistant Principals of the Junior and Middle Schools in the leadership, development and subsequent enhancement of the school wide teaching and learning program, values, shared beliefs, processes and practices

Specific Duties

Regularly monitor and evaluate the student outcomes data for students across years 7-9 including Attendance, Naplan, ATTS, and school generated data to develop and implement initiatives, programs and processes that meet the needs as defined by the data
Oversee the implementation of the Start Up and PLT programs, including inducting staff for consistency of delivery and assessment
Document the PLT program in line with the College’s Curriculum policy and key curriculum documents
Build the capacity of the Junior and Middle school teams ensuring role clarity and accountability to deliver the key actions of the Strategic and Annual Implementation plans.
Case management of high needs students when required
Represent the Junior and Middle School at the Education Committee and develop curriculum proposals to support student learning based on student outcome and feedback data
Develop and document the Year 6 into 7 and 7-8-9 Transition Program including timelines and activities, Information evenings, Discovery Day, Start Up program, transition meetings with parents regarding high needs students
Oversee the administration of the transition process from application to enrolment
Liaise with the Curriculum Leader, College Operations and Accountability Leader, and Domain Leaders to plan Years 7-9 curriculum offerings, timetabling and allocation of students to classes
Ensure the implementation of extra curricula and acceleration programs including the organisation of Year 7-9 camps and City Experience programs
Be an active member of the Instructional Leadership Team by contributing to the development of distributed leadership, mentoring and coaching
Promote the Junior/Middle School program and student achievements with the wider school community including students, staff and parents through school council reports and contributions to the school newsletter and website
In relation to financial management:

Complete an annual stock-take the sub-school resources and prepare a budget based on the annual needs of the teaching and learning program
Determine and supply the Business Manager with the sub-school specific requirements
Assume responsibility for the order and maintenance of any specialist equipment, appropriate to the sub-school, through the Business Manager
