About the Directorate

School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) is delivering new school buildings, major upgrades and maintenance strategies to ensure every school-aged child has access to high quality education facilities at their local public school. This encompasses the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.

About the team

The Communications team is a comprehensive strategic communications group incorporating the planning, development, coordination and implementation of media, corporate communication and community engagement activities, both external and internal to the department. The team supports the achievement of the SINSW objectives in driving significant reform and innovation across NSW, including support for internal and external stakeholders in rural and regional areas across the state.

About the role

With 6 direct reports, as the Senior Manager Community Engagement you will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating best practice communication and engagement strategies to effectively engage a range of different communities and key stakeholders within SINSW. You will be a dynamic leader who can develop the Community Engagement unit, including providing coaching and mentoring to achieve high levels of performance.

You will be someone with previous experience in a community engagement role in a similar sized organisation. You will have demonstrated success in delivering multiple integrated community engagement plans and having had responsibility in providing high level advice to senior leaders on sensitive community issues and risks. This role will ensure a shared knowledge of complex and contentious issues affecting local communities which may impact on the successful delivery of Projects, and how to best manage these.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Tertiary qualification in communications or a related discipline and/or equivalent experience within community engagement.

• Experience in the delivery of community consultation projects, either in the public or private sector.
• Will require travel to outer suburban and regional locations, and work outside of core business hours in the evening and on weekends.

• Knowledge of and commitment to the department’s Aboriginal education policies. (Please find Aboriginal Education Review – Information)
