Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing

An exciting opportunity currently exists for enthusiastic and highly motivated registered nurses to undertake a post graduate program in Cancer Nursing. This program, the Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing, will be delivered by our university partner, the University of Melbourne.

You will be employed part time (0.8-0.9 EFT) at Austin Health in one of two cancer wards in the Olivia Newton-John Cancer, Wellness and Research Centre for the duration of the post graduate program. On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing, ongoing employment with Austin Health is guaranteed.

Austin Health works in collaboration with the University of Melbourne for delivery of this post graduate cancer nursing program and a model of blended learning is utilised. This consists of both theoretical and clinical requirements whilst you are working in the Cancer Services clinical environment.

Austin Health follows a best practice clinical learning environment philosophy and delivers education using contemporary teaching modalities with an emphasis on experiential learning. There is a particular focus on bedside teaching and learning. The post graduate program is 12 months duration.

Essential for Performance of the Position

* Registered Nurse, current registration with NMBA

* A commitment to Austin Health values

* At least two years experience post registration

* Demonstrated commitment to cancer nursing

* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written

* Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment

* Commitment to further self-development and education

* Ability to meet academic and clinical requirements as part of post graduate clinical program

* Well developed interpersonal skills

* Demonstrated ability to problem solve

* Patient centred approach to care delivery

* Commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety

* Knowledge of legal/ethical requirements and professional standards

Desirable but not essential:

* A sound understanding of information technology including clinical systems, applications relevant to the Management of rostering and risk management reporting or as required for the role and/or department

Ward 6 South is a 32 bed ward and includes specialties of oncology and urology whilst Ward 7 South is a 28 bed ward with the specialties of haematology, endocrinology and rheumatology. Both these wards are located in the Olivia Newton-John Cancer, Wellness and Research Centre as part of Austin Health. The Olivia Newton-John Cancer, Wellness and Research Centre also includes a palliative care ward, day oncology and apheresis, radiation oncology, specialist clinics, clinical trials and wellness and information centres integrating clinical care with wellness and research for the best outcomes and patient experience.
