The Role We are seeking to recruit a professional and highly experienced investigator to join the Fraud Control and Investigations Branch (FCIB) to undertake investigations throughout Australia into a broad range of matters including criminal, probity and administrative issues that impact on the Department of Defence. The duties of an EL1 Fraud Investigator working in Defence include the following:

Plan, lead and manage the business objectives of complex investigations relating to serious fraud and corruption related offences and other suspected wrongdoing.
Manage allocated resources, set work area priorities, develop strategies and evaluate business outcomes.
Maintain accurate record keeping including the Defence Policing and Security Management System.
Interpret and apply relevant legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks to investigation activities.
Gather, analyse and interpret evidence; interview witnesses under appropriate caution and obtain statements and lawfully take possession of exhibits for subsequent production of briefs of evidence to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions for action.
Deliver high quality verbal and written advice to the Director of Investigations and Recoveries and senior leaders in Defence on matters pertaining to the assessment and management of risks, planned operational activities and investigation outcomes.
Advise the FCIB Executive of recommendations, lessons learnt and fraud prevention strategies arising from Defence investigations.
Build and maintain productive working relationships within Defence and engage cooperatively with Federal, State and Territory police and the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution on investigation activities.

About our Team Under the Assistant Secretary Fraud Control, FCIB leads and coordinates the Defence fraud control program, promotes ethical conduct within the Defence Portfolio, investigates allegations of fraud, serious misconduct and lack of probity, manages the Defence Policing and Security Management System, and manages and operates the Defence Public Interest Disclosure Scheme. A high level of skill and experience in the investigation of complex matters, including criminal fraud.

Display a high level of integrity both inside and outside the work environment. (Note: there may be a requirement to travel and work outside normal business hours on occasions).
Is willing and available to travel interstate, on occasions with little notice, for various time frames.
Can work effectively within a framework of legislation, policy and procedures to maintain the trust and confidence of Defence senior leadership and the Australian Government.
Represent the Assistant Secretary Fraud Control through the provision of effective operational leadership in delivering an investigative function in support of enabling Defence capability.
