Mater Pathology is the oldest pathology service in the Brisbane and surrounding areas. Initially established and supervised by the Sisters of Mercy in 1919, Mater Pathology has grown into a multi-faceted and technologically advanced laboratory service serving patients, doctors and hospitals. The service invests all profits back into patient care and is part of Mater Misericordiae Limited.

Our collection centres are located in over 20 suburbs supporting local communities. In addition, Mater Pathology also offers a 24 hour collection service out of the South Brisbane Mater Adults Hospital for patient convenience.

About the role

Mater currently has two permanent Scientist positions available within Mater Pathologys Cellular Molecular Diagnostics (CMD) Laboratory. Both a full-time and a part-time (0.5 FTE) opportunity is available.

The CMD laboratory encompasses Serology, Molecular Microbiology and also Flow Cytometry. The purpose of this role is to apply independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the accurate and timely verification and validation of test results.

Salary range: $33.32 - $48.85 (Health Practitioner Level 3) per hour plus superannuation

What youll be doing

Apply a sound level of scientific knowledge and experience to perform routine testing in one or more of the following areas Infectious Disease Serology, Molecular Microbiology and/or Flow Cytometry

Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of quality improvement and actively participate in the quality system

Contribute to the appropriate management of resources necessary to perform the work including equipment maintenance

Manage work priorities to effectively meet critical clinical requirements and ensure accurate clinical diagnostic results are reported promptly

Provide professional level clinical services commensurate with the level of experience

About you

A Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in a relevant field of expertise or an equivalent qualification (essential)

Experience and general clinical knowledge in at least of one of Serology, Molecular Microbiology and/or Clinical Flow Cytometry (essential)

Applicants will also need to have ability to problem solve routine technical issues, participate positively in a multi-disciplinary team environment, and work efficiently while also prioritising workflow in a high workload environment.
