Position: 2021 Mater Graduate Registered Nurse Program (Intensive Care Unit/Emergency Department)- Level 1

The Mater Graduate Registered Nurse Program is a nursing program developed and run by the Organisational Development team at Mater. The program is designed specifically for newly graduated Registered Nurses and aims to facilitate the transition from newly graduated nurse to a competent and confident Registered Nurse through supportive learning in a safe and dynamic environment.

PARTNERSHIPS

Here at Mater we work closely alongside our higher education providers, particularly James Cook University (JCU), Central Queensland University (CQU) and the University of Tasmania (UTAS). As a Graduate Midwife here at Mater you will have access to a range of higher education studies and scholarships, depending on where you want to go and what you want to study. More information will be provided further in the application process.

12 month program

Fixed employment contract of 0.6 FTE (48 hours per fortnight) with the possibility of flexing up

AIMS

To facilitate the transition from newly graduated nurse to a competent and confident Registered Midwife through supportive learning in a safe environment
To transition from theory to practice, reinforce basic learned nursing skills and incorporate evidence based care including current technology into patient care
To identify self-learning needs, set learning goals and seek appropriate learning experiences to meet these needs
To incorporate ethical principles of practice and demonstrate an attitude incorporating the values of our organisation
To develop and continuously improve incorporating the principles of adult self-directed learning
Graduates practice using best practice guidelines outlined in industry standards and compliance with organisational policies and procedures
To provide a program that will assist the graduate to consolidate and develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge
To provide a supportive learning environment that is conducive to learning
Offer a stimulating and comprehensive program which offers peer support and hands on training in a dynamic clinical setting

OUR EXPECTATIONS OF YOU

Liaise with the Manager of the unit in which you are working on a regular basis ensuring open, clear and transparent communication
Ensure you request your study days off in advance from your relevant Manager
Attend 100% of the study days and provide early notification of inability to attend
Communicate any concerns or issues with your Preceptor or a member of the Organisational Development (OD) team
Complete a daily reflection
Maintain your continuing professional development (CPD) log
Complete all Mandatory Education and Training
Complete all assessment required as part of the Graduate Nurse Program
Ensure compliance with the Code of Conduct
Embrace and display the Mater values at all times

To be eligible for employment in this role you must be one of the following:

An Australian Citizen
A permanent resident of Australia
A New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport
A citizen of another country with an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia

Preference will be given to applicants who are Australian Citizens, Permanent Residents or have the independent right to work in Australia, however should vacancies remain available there are a limited number of TSS sponsorship opportunities available. You can only be offered employment in this role for the duration that your current visa allows you to work in Australia.
