About the Role:

We are currently seeking applications for a part-time position as Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner located in Brisbane. The purpose of this role is to provide high quality intake and mediation services to families post-separation who are experiencing various levels of conflict, thereby assisting families in developing and implementing child-focused parenting and/or property agreements, as well as assisting families to focus on the best interests of children throughout any ongoing family conflict.

Duties:

Provide information to separated families (including same-sex couples and grandparents) pursuant to the Family Law Act and Regulations, as well as our policy and procedures
Provide case management services to clients
Conduct telephone assessment interviews in accordance with our policy and procedures
Assess, identify and develop interventions that both acknowledge and offer solutions where power imbalance is a serious issue
Assess, identify and develop interventions where domestic and family violence, child abuse and self-harm are identified
Conduct mediation in-person and by telephone regarding parenting and property disputes within the context of the Family Law Act
Ensure that mediation is child-focused
Conduct assessment in relation to the provision of Certificates under the legislation
Ensure the needs and requirements of culturally and linguistically diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are addressed
Maintain community liaison in conjunction with and on behalf of us (particularly with the legal profession and the family law courts)
Implement and deliver community education and support to clients in accordance with our requirements
Maintain client confidentiality pursuant to legislation and our policy and procedures
Manage telephone enquiries, as required
Provide information to clients and potential clients about other options (including information about counselling and legal processes)
Refer clients to other services, where appropriate
Actively participate in the process of professional supervision

About You:

The ideal candidate will have:

Current Family Dispute Resolution Accreditation
Current FDRP registration with the Australian Attorney-General’s Department
Vocational Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution
Relevant undergraduate qualifications in the Social Sciences, Social Work, Psychology or Law
Confidence and self-motivation to promptly complete all tasks autonomously and with guidance and supervision
Demonstrated experience in undertaking case management, conducting intakes (including risk assessment and assessment of suitability for mediation) and delivering family dispute resolution (mediation) within a facilitative mediation framework will be highly regarded
Demonstrated experience in child-focused practices
Experience working with families in high conflict situations
Theoretical and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues impacting on children and families during and following separation
Knowledge, understanding and application of current and relevant legislations and regulations relating to family law and domestic violence
The ability to rapidly build rapport with clients through strong interpersonal skills
The ability to be client-focused, non-judgemental, compassionate and empathetic
The ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise
Intermediate skills with computer software (including word processing programs) will be highly regarded
Valid and recent National Police Check
Valid and recent Working With Children Check
Full Australian working rights
Valid driver’s licence.
