About Department

Berengarra, a new multi storey 90 bed state of the art residential aged care facility comprises 60 mainstream and 30 Aged Persons' Mental Health (APMH) beds designed to deliver contemporary best practice person centred care. Berengarra compliments a suite of existing St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne's residential facilities: Auburn House & Riverside House (each facility with 30 APMH beds); Cambridge House (30 bed mainstream facility); and Prague House (45 bed facility for people with a history of homelessness).

We provide an environment that eliminates institutional elements to the greatest extent and supports care designed in consultation with each person.

About the Role

As a Health Assistant (Nursing), you will work under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) or equivalent, as an assistant and support person to the Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses to provide delegated aspects of resident care. Within this role, the elements of direct and non-direct resident care will be delegated in accordance with the professional judgement of the supervising Registered Nurse, and in accordance with the level of achieved educational preparation and assessed competence of each Health Assistant (Nursing). The Registered Nurse remains accountable for all elements of delegated care.

The standard shift times for this night duty position are between 21.30pm (9.30pm) and 7.30am. The successful candidate will be required to work a rotating 7 day night duty roster (Monday - Sunday). You may be required to work different nights within a fortnight, as per the department's operational requirements.

Classification for this position PW11 ($49,431 base salary per annum).

Duties

Contribute to positive resident outcomes by ensuring all elements of delegated work are completed accurately and in accordance with St Vincent's policies and procedures
Participate in delegated aspects of resident care including but not limited to:
- Assistance with personal care and hygiene
- Assistance with nutritional needs
- Assistance with positioning, transfers and mobility
- Assistance with elimination needs

Ensure residents privacy and dignity are maintained at all times
Communicate effectively with residents, families and the wider team

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Certificate III Health Assistant (Nursing), or other relevant Certificate or satisfactory completion of first year of study in a health related degree
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a wider team
Good interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills including an ability to communicate effectively with other staff, residents and families
Commitment to a professional work ethic
Commitment to ongoing professional development
Permanent residency status within Australia
A personal approach which is positive, enthusiastic, friendly and helpful
Experience in a healthcare setting is highly desirable
