Position Information

Finigan School of Distance Education (FSDE) commenced operation at the start of the 2019 school year. FSDE is a purpose-built K-12 distance education school located in Queanbeyan NSW. The school has 97 full-time equivalent teaching staff and 1000 enrolments. 8.6% of our students identify as Aboriginal and 15% or our students identify as having a language background other than English.

FSDE has been specifically designed to meet the needs of distance education students and teachers. The schools facilities include 20 web lesson studios, a satellite lesson studio and 2 video production studios. Each teacher is equipped with a Microsoft Surface Pro for the delivery of live lessons and the digital annotation of student work.

The school has 9 learning hubs located across south eastern NSW where students are able to access face-to-face teacher support. Residential schools operate at regular intervals throughout the year. Teachers conduct field visits to provide face-to-face support for students.
FSDE is an equity provision for many students. We provide quality individualised learning programs for students who meet the criteria of one or more of the distance education enrolment categories. These include geographical isolation, travelling within Australia or overseas, medical conditions that prevent attendance at a face-to-face school, vocationally talented students and students with additional learning and support needs, including those with disability and students in extraordinary circumstances. FSDE also provides single course curriculum access for students attending face-to-face schools.
FSDE teachers are learning experience designers. They are committed to the provision of high quality, personalised learning experiences for every student through the innovative and flexible use of technology.

Selection Criteria

1. Approval to teach students with learning and support needs (Secondary). Ability to work with the schools Learning and Support Team to provide professional specialist advice and assistance about students with additional learning needs.

2. Ability to use assessment data to identify, support and modify educational programs for students with complex learning needs.

3. Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to engage professionally with students, families, staff, Aboriginal community and external agencies to create effective partnerships.

4. Demonstrate the ability to effectively use technology to support teaching and learning of students with complex needs.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

This is an Above Centrally Identified permanent teacher position established through school funds. The successful candidates continued appointment to this position will be subject to the continuity of this funding, the ongoing requirement for the role and the educational needs of the school. Should the funding or the requirement for the position cease, the teacher will receive nominated transfer status; please refer to the Staffing Procedure for the Teaching Service in NSW
