Research Fellow

Established in 2001, Ear Science Institute Australia (ESIA) has expanded rapidly into a world-renowned medical research facility. As a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of those with ear and hearing disorders, we have brought together researchers, audiologists, surgeons, clinicians, academics and business strategists to carry out our vision. As the Research Fellow you are responsible for performing directed research activities in (ESIA), and the Ear Sciences Centre, School of Surgery and your main duties are to:

Contribute to existing programs of research and develop new research projects focusing on Molecular and Cellular Otolaryngology to address important questions for prevention and treatment of ear, hearing and balance disorders.
Design and carry out investigations in these research areas, especially those complementing the clinical interests and strengths of ESIA. Play a key role in building on our culture of innovation and collaboration.
Publish research findings regularly in peer-reviewed journals, and present research findings at suitable local, national and international forums.
Contribute to research funding applications through idea generation, proposal writing and grant submission.
Assist with supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students.
Comply with relevant University and Hospital Human Research Ethics, Animal Ethics, and other laboratory and safety policies.
Contribute knowledge, experience and skills to other ESIA and Clinical researchers.

About You

Your key to success will be via your demonstrated experience in the following:

Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline.
At least three years post-doctoral research experience in biotechnology for treating hearing disorders.
A developing research track record, supported by peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
A clear appreciation of research commercialisation, translational science for clinical application and business development.
Excellent abilities in problem solving, project managing, decision making, data presentation and attitude to work in a team environment.
A clear appreciation of basic science innovation and commitment to its development for clinical translation.
High levels of motivation and a can-do attitude, be, able to establish priorities, set and maintain deadlines and have a demonstrated ability to use your initiative.

The appointment is full-time, and is based at the Ralph and Patricia Sarich Neuroscience Research Institute on the QEII Health Campus Site
