The Assistant Director Security Advisor is responsible for leading and managing a small security team within a framework of legislation, established policies and procedures in accordance with the National Archives' Corporate Plan and business objectives.

The National Archives are looking for someone who is experienced and competent within the Australian Government protective security field that can exercise initiative and judgment, who will be expected to plan and complete security governance activities and tasks whilst resolving issues that arise. The successful applicant will be required to share information to ensure others are kept informed and make effective use of individual and team capabilities to identify risks and issues that may impact on work objectives. You will have stakeholder engagement and will be required to respond to changes in stakeholder needs and expectations to achieve outcomes.

The key duties of the position include
Under broad direction the main duties of the role are to:

Provide strategic advice, support, information and assistance to employees and management in relation to the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework, including the Information Security Manual.
Research, review and evaluate projects and/or programs in relation to protective security in line with Australian Government security policy, best practice and industry standards.
Lead and manage a team and its resources in accordance with the National Archives' strategic directions, outcome and outputs framework, legislative framework and other policies with the responsibility for the supervision and development of staff; build team capacity through coaching, performance feedback; and encouraging career development.
Build and maintain effective, professional relationships with stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals.
Undertake work activities with an awareness of their possible impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for the Archives.
Promote and apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
Implement, promote and apply the Archives' Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in The Archives Way.
