The Role
E&IG Product Directors have three fundamental aims. Firstly, a strategic and forward planning role associated with all dimensions of their product. Secondly, whilst cognisant of individual Defence Base nuances and needs, facilitate the delivery of nationally consistent products. Finally, providing specialist product advice and guidance to Defence stakeholders to ensure product/service delivery is executed in an integrated and intended manner.

The Assistant Director supports these fundamental aims by applying a high degree of business acumen, subject knowledge, and customer centricity to their daily work, which includes responsibility for:

Ensuring that the delivery of their product is aligned to the governments strategic goals, is fit for purpose, and optimised in terms of efficiency and effectiveness;
Providing specialist advice and guidance to all stakeholders in order to support issue resolution;
Analysing risk and oversight of risk management strategies associated with their product, within the broader Defence Risk Management Framework.

About our Team
The Directorate Estate Environment & Energy Service Delivery (DEEESD) is one of nine Product Directorates within Estate Service Delivery Branch.

The Directorate has seven product portfolios that it manages nationally on behalf of Defence: Energy, Land, Environment, Waste, Animal, Water, and Bushfire.

Each product portfolio has enabling Service Delivery characteristics that support Defence capability, environmental performance, and estate stewardship. The team functions include:

End-to-end management of supply contracts;
Assurance of service delivery conformance, performance and compliance,
Judicious financial management and reporting;
Policy implementation, including technical application of environmental objectives;
Service delivery risk management and integration, and
Product optimisation and co-design - Being the Voice of the Customer.

Our Ideal Candidate
The products that the Directorate manages are complex, have a high profile and level of community interest, and they directly underpins Defence capability, environmental performance, and responsible stewardship of the estate. The applicant needs to demonstrate their ability to understand the strategic and tactical elements of complex environmental and contract issues. The ideal applicant needs to also demonstrate that they are an articulate communicator, a considered decision maker, a mindful leader, and that they have strong business acumen.

The Ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Experience successfully managing people with and without influence;
Experience successfully partnering, applying customer centricity and adopting co-design problem solving;
Experience successfully navigating politics, policy, and partisan perspectives to achieve the right outcomes;
Experience successfully prioritising service delivery outcomes according to risk;
A sense of humour, passion, loyalty, and integrity.
