Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Shift Supervisor spends more than 50% of their time in the mill directly interacting and managing their shift. This includes coaching and supporting operators, providing feedback, developing operator competence and responding to HSEQ issues and incidents. The role will be executed in a 24/7 rotating shift pattern.

The Shift Supervisor is expected to provide immediate feedback on performance in relation to role fulfillment, including for example, task completion, complying with and achieving agreed standards, KPI achievement, lateness or inappropriate behaviour.

Each of the 4 Shift Supervisors is accountable for managing their shift and to focus on key priorities as allocated by the Plant Manager.

The Shift Supervisor undertakes hands-on operational tasks for the balance of the time.

Supervision and People Management

* Organizes, plans, coordinates and supervises the activities of the shift to ensure that all work is carried out safely and efficiently in accordance with operating procedures and policies, so that manufactured products meet or exceed all established quality requirements, including product integrity and production order documentation.
* Leads, coaches and appraises shift members, and develops the shift using the relevant HR tools, services and procedures, in order to have an effective and efficient team that achieves results, a positive culture and Nutrecos values are supported and carried out. This includes all related actions, such as recruitment, induction/probation, training, goal performance appraisal, discipline, HSEQ, and grievance procedures.

HSEQ

* Builds a safety culture within Production
* Ensures the shift follows all safety, quality and environment standards and policies, taking disciplinary measures when required
* Ensures the shift follows all housekeeping schedules to maintain agreed standards
* Ensures all work is performed in compliance with all relevant safety regulations and safe work instructions in order to prevent incidents
* Manages the control, investigation and preventative actions for HSEQ incidents occurring on the shift
* Fulfils the role of Chief Warden

Production Planning

* Ensures effective production management, jointly with the Plant Manager, by determining production priorities based on the established monthly / weekly production schedules
* Makes daily tactical decisions about people in order to meet the set standards and production schedule, including cleaning and other associated production activities
* Ensures most efficient staffing and organization according to production requirements, establishes the work schedules for the Operators along with the Production planning provided by the Planner
* Manages shift leave, cover and resource allocation (short and long term)
* Liaises with Maintenance, to effectively align production activities with planned and unplanned maintenance

Reporting

* Maintains the required production monitoring systems and reports, so that an adequate insight in production status is available at all times
* Completes and distributes a Shift report at the end of every Shift.
* Monitors KPIs and works in conjunction with the Plant Manager to reach the set targets

Continuous improvement

* Contributes actively to continuous improvement efforts in the achievement of target objectives,
* Leads problem solving groups in a structured approach
* Completes root course analyses as required and as part of continuous improvement processes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

* Certificate III traineeship or a trade qualification
* Manufacturing (operational) experience
* Experience and knowledge of computer controlled machinery
* Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a fully competent shift to deliver production plan
* Strong level of literacy and computer skills in outlook, word and excel
* Licence to Perform High Risk Work (Fork Lift)
