About us

Corrective Services NSW is a part of Department of Communities and Justice and is looking to employ qualified Senior Trade Overseers in Corrective Services Industries (CSI) to provide inmates in correctional centres with vocational training in service and commercial industries to improve their employment opportunities when they are released from custody. Employment is a proven factor in reducing the risk of re-offending.

About the role
We are looking for Senior Trade Overseers with Textiles qualifications and experience to join the team at South Coast Correctional Centre. The Senior Overseer will have the ability to supervise and develop inmates through managing, coaching and educating inmates. This role will be responsible for encouraging inmates to build and improve on their working skills to help enhance post-release employment opportunities. As a Senior Overseer you will heavily be involved in managing budgets, planning and reviewing quality and continuous improvement process ideas and initiatives.

In this role, you will specifically be supervising the cutting operation using pathfinder and style CAD as well as manufacturing of T-Shirts, Shorts, Track Tops, Uniforms plus Roller Blinds for retail sector.

About You
As a Senior Trade Overseer (Textiles) you will be agile and provide solid leadership to inmates of various classifications. With your Textiles Trade qualification and experience you will:

Positively contribute to the business unit operations through the delivery of work related inmate training, including the implementation of Inmate Traineeships
Provide detailed input to case management reporting through the Work Readiness Program
Managing resources efficiently and effectively
Create and maintain a safe working environment for staff, contractors, inmates and visitors to comply with Work Health & Safety legislation
You will be involved in manufacturing of various styles of garments

Essential Requirements

Relevant trade qualifications(Certificate III in Clothing Production / Certificate IV in Design / Bachelor in Fashion Design)
Current Certificate III in Correctional Practice or capacity to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practice in accordance with specified CSNSW timeframes. (10 week paid training)
Current NSW driver’s license and willingness to drive a vehicle in the course of performing the role.
Your experience working with automated cutting equipment e.g. Pathfinder or similar will help set you apart from the rest
Exposure and experience working with Style CAD is highly preferred but not essential
