Youth Justice is a dynamic organisation in a period of exciting change. Youth Justice supervises and cares for young offenders in the community and in detention centres in NSW. The division provides diversionary and community-based services, as well as custodial services in detention centres for young people on remand and on control order.

About the role

This role reports to the Senior Manager Organisation Development & Training and is accountable for managing a team responsible for

* Identifying training and development needs, formulating programs, plans and services and delivering appropriate training and development solutions across the state to enable Youth Justice staff to perform their roles safely and effectively.
* Evaluating and reporting on the outcomes of programs / services and benchmark against other relevant comparisons to ensure we have current, evidence based and appropriate offerings including conducting mandated reviews of all programs managed in the team following accreditation according to the review schedule.
* Consulting with Directors and other key staff to determine ongoing business needs and provide a calendar of offerings.
* Setting clear standards, goals and timeframes and monitor all work generated by the team to ensure it always meets the required standard and is delivered appropriately, on time and in budget. Follow up issues as required to ensure compliance and to build a high-performance culture.

Essential Requirements

* Relevant tertiary qualifications / training and assessment qualification or similar discipline or extensive experience and background in the area of training, coaching and program delivery to mandated clients.
* Class C drivers licence valid in NSW
* Travel will be required.
* Working With Children Check

The Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 requires persons engaged in children related work to have Working with Children clearances. If successful in this role you will be required to provide a Working with Children Check clearance number prior to commencing in the role. The successfully candidate will be able to work collegiately with managers and other key stakeholders to understand the training and development needs of our custodial workforce and then lead their team to cost effectively design, develop and deliver on-line and face to face packages that are trauma informed, culturally sensitive and evidence based to meet the needs of the workforce enabling them to work safely and effectively.

They will need to keep up to date legislation and with custodial policy and practice and keep their team informed of current trends and practices in the provision of programs for young offenders so that all we do supports the organisations goal of reducing the risk of re-offending and that enable staff to support the rehabilitation of young offenders in the custodial system.
