Our large NSW State Government client is responsible for the management of the NSW Government’s social housing portfolio. This is a fabulous opportunity for an experienced Internal Auditor to join their team in Parramatta. This is an estimated 5-month temporary assignment, with a potential to extend.

Working within the Asset Business Unit, you will be responsible to monitor and audit in relation to contractor performance under maintenance contract including reviewing contractor policies, procedures, records and systems in order to appraise effectiveness by which contractors meet their obligatory requirements under the maintenance contract.

In this rewarding role, you will be undertaking the following duties –

Undertake risk assessments, developing annual internal audit plans
Perform and lead audits/ special reviews.
Plan and execute audit assignments, in accordance with the Departments requirements, best practice and the annual audit plan, as per the Performance Management Framework of the contract.
Coach staff throughout the audit/review to ensure conformity with applicable policy and procedures in all phases of the audit process.
Conduct contract compliance reviews and audits utilising both computer aided auditing techniques (CAAT) and traditional auditing methods including data sampling, generation of work papers, data queries, data stratification, sample extractions, missing sequence identification, statistical analysis, calculations, pivot tables, cross tabulation and fraud detection
Document and evaluate effectiveness and efficiency, compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, policies and procedures, reliability and integrity of information as well as safeguarding of assets
Analyse and determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the contractors’ control environment whilst identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement
Prepare and produce presentations of audit results to key stakeholders and Management
Develop and discuss, findings, recommendations and timelines for corrective action
Document the audit results in accordance with Performance Management Framework, Maintenance Contract and applicable audit standards
Monitor the implementation status of agreed recommendations and appraise the adequacy of follow up actions taken on audit findings and recommendations
Act as an objective source of independent advice to ensure validity
Undertake compliance checks and assessments of contracts

To be successful in this great assignment you will have the following –

Tertiary Qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or Business
Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience in Internal Auditing / Risk Management
Professional Membership and commitment to professional certification as an Internal Auditor (CIA or CISA) or accountant (CA/CPA) desirable
Thorough understanding of Public Sector frameworks and legislation
Impeccable interpersonal and communication skills, especially in consultation, negotiation and conflict management
Solid analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills, with an aptitude for learning
Valid NSW Driver’s licence
Strong skills MS Office suite and proficiency in computer audit tools such as Access, SQL, and SAP
Ability to commence the assignment almost immediately and commit to the duration
