About the Role

The Forensic Clinician role aims to build capacity and boost forensic mental health expertise and best practice within the adult mental health program. This position provides a resource of skills, knowledge and support for staff to enhance the service response for clients presenting with multiple complex problems. These will include serious mental illness, psychiatric and medical co-morbidities, substance abuse problems, a history of offending and high risk behaviours.

The FCS programme will also have a special focus on improving outcomes for consumers on CSOs and NCSOs as well as streamlining communication and referral processes for consumers moving in and out of the community and the criminal justice system, specifically prisons and Thomas Embling Hospital.

Classification Range

* RPN5 NP51 ($114,400 per annum)
* OT4/SW4 HR9 HR12 or HR25 HR28 ($113,640 - $125,210 per annum)
* P4 PM1 PM5 ($113,911 - $136,344 per annum)

Duties

* Provide high quality face to face clinical assessments, treatment/management plans and interventions in partnership with the treating team.
* Provide expert advice and support to improve communication and continuity-of-care for SVMH consumers transitioning through the justice system, the correctional system, the prisons and Thomas Embling Hospital.
* Provide oversight, advice and function as a conduit for communication for colleagues around consumers on Custodial Supervision Orders and Non Custodial Supervision Orders.
* Provide training, advice and support to enhance the quality of care for clients with complex needs and boost the calibre of risk assessment and risk management within SVMH.
* Administer and participate in SVMHs High Risk Review Panel.
* Participate in Forensicares orientation program for Forensic Clinicians, in addition to their ongoing calendar of training, education and programmatic oversight.
* Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* A minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience within Mental Health Services.
* Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of the forensic mental health.
* Post-graduate qualifications in relevant area of speciality or progress towards same.
* Demonstrated skills and experience in providing a comprehensive range of interventions with people who have serious mental illness and multiple complex needs.
* Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for mental health workers promoting a standard of excellence in clinical practice.
* Sound working knowledge of evidence-based models of comprehensive assessment and management of risk.
* Proven ability in developing and delivering high quality mental health training modules, demonstrating excellent oral and written communication skills.
* A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2014, Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 and other relevant legislation.
