Your Role

The primary focus for the Learning and Development Team Leader is on the management of civilian recognised Career Continuum Training to Navy Technical sailors that is delivered by TAFEs and under contract with a training service provider. In particular this role ensures that consistent practices are maintained across multiple localities and that processes/requirements related to the management of students and delivery of contracted requirements is achieved.

Leading two teams of personnel from Navy Engineering Training Units (East and West / Sydney and Perth), You will be accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex learning and development work within an integrated workforce. You are accountable to ensure you have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements. You will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. You will be required to provide detailed learning and development technical, professional advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.

You will be accountable to lead a team, set work priorities, manage workflow and resources. You will build team capacity through coaching and feedback and will review and develop the quality of work undertaken by others within your work unit, and you will exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve work unit outcomes. In this role you will have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement (both internal and external to Navy) and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex issues. You will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders' needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. You will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

To be successful in the role, you will need to be a team focused individual who is able to establish and maintain strong relationships within a network of internal and external stakeholders, additionally strong communication skill are required as the candidate will be coordinating information flow across multiple locations. Highly organised with strong administrative skills and the ability to interpret and practically apply policy and legislation in a business context, they will have strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to meet mandated timeframes. Experience dealing with contracted service providers is desirable, and flexibility to adjust to a changing environment is needed.

Our Team

Training Authority - Engineering (TA-ENG) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to provide essential support in the area of Learning Development and Team Leadership. TA-ENG is located in several locations across Australia, with its National Office in HMAS Cerberus, Victoria. Predominately TA-ENG manages and delivers career and platform training for the Royal Australian Navy's Marine and Electronics technical workforce. The position is located at the Navy Training Systems Centre - Randwick, Randwick Barracks, Randwick, NSW, 2031, however will also have direct reporting chains from Navy Engineering Training Unit - West, which is located in WA. Reporting to Deputy Director TA-ENG Careers (based in HMAS Cerberus) you will plan, manage and govern the delivery of training resources, including procurement and budgets by adhering to legislative requirements and Departmental policies, and ensure Training Force procedural requirements are adhered to.
